Folder settings won't stay

I have some folder views set to thumbnail and some to icons but they keep
getting reset to detail view. I used tweak UI to set explorer's
customization folders to remember 30,000 but still no help. How do I get
Windows XP Home to leave my folder view settings alone?

This removes all saved settings.

Type Regedit in Start - Run
Right click taskbar and choose Task Manager. Processes tab and end processs for explorer. (your Desktop and Start Menu now disappears).
In Regedit navigate to each of these keys and delete them
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamsMRU (may not exist)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

Then in Task Manager, File - Run type explorer. (Start menu and Desktop come back).

50 entries = approx 48K, 30,000 = 30 Megabyte.

Bob,

This particular function of TweakUI is broken, and the maximum supported value (via manual registry tweak) is 8000. In addition to David's advice:

<quote>
Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2):
