Folder Redirection Stuck on Old Server

Hello:

I had a GPO that redirects users' My Documents to
\\server1\%username%\mydocs. Some users also had Offline Files in use
on these folders. This worked fine.

Over the weekend, we replaced the file server (and DC) with a new one.
I modified the GPO to send users to server2 for their redirection. It
seems that users that had Offline Files in use are stuck still going
to server1. Other aspects of that GPO seem to be funtioning (e.g., the
new login script is working).

After turning off Offline Folders, My Documents properties show a
greyed blank for Target Folder.

I have checked other policies up and down none have Redirection set.

Any ideas where to flush this out or what is going on?

It sounds like the clients may still have some cached files from the
previous redirected share. You will need to clear their current cached
copies first, then connect them to the new redirected, offline files enabled
share.

To clear the cache on the client workstations:

-open an Explorer window.
-Pull down the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
-Click on the Offline Files folder tab.
-Click the Delete Files button.
-Put a check mark next to the old server in the shared folders list.
-Make sure to select the option to delete both temporary offline and
permanent offline copies.

Two things to keep in mind on this:
-Make sure that no files that are being deleted are the only copies.
-This will need to be done on each client workstation which previously
connected to the old share.

Please repost if this doesn't help or you have additional concerns.

Hi Tim:

This is still an issue on some workstations. Basically, even though I
have deleted all of the offline content, the workstation still trys to
sync. When I uncheck the box (in the Offline Files Status window), I
can click OK but as soon as I go back to it, the check mark is still
there.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Something may be truly stuck. How about if you try to delete the CSC folder
in the Windows directory and reboot?

Ok. I'm not looking at the machine in question right now. However, I
recall looking for this folder. Either it was not present or I deleted
it to no avail. I will check tomorrow or as soon as I can put hands on
the machine (it's a laptop).

Thanks.

::bump::

I just recreated this in a two machine lab, 2003 and XP. It didnt
take much.

Created a share and redirected My Documents to it via group policy.

Then after logging in with a few test users, confirmed it worked, and
let things settle for a while.

I then created a new share, and pointed to it from within the usual
group policy location.

Now on the workstations, the actual My Documents icon is fine and
where it should be. Even the files seemed to have moved.

HOWEVER, the workstation still looks for the old share as well.
Deleting the offline files (both places) does nothing. The only way to
make it stop checking on logoff/logon is to uncheck it in the
Synchronize setup. This is of course ridiculous if you had hundreds
of workstations. I also notice that during login, it still shows the
old connection, even after gpupdate, login/out, reboot, and checking
that the icon and even the registry say it's the new one.

And when I delete the old share, it all goes to hell cause the
workstation starts whining when you logout cause its still checking
two places. And like above, the login sync screen still shows the old
UNC.

Another note: It seems to me this business of syncing with a desktop
is pointless and counterproductive. How to turn it off via group
policy? Of course turning it off doesn't get rid of the problem
tho... just sweeps it under the desktop.
