folder privacy

When right clicking a folder, there is a "sharing" tab, under this tab there
is an option to make the folder private, with a little check box. . .my
computer is not allowing me to place a check in this box. . .is it necessary
to be on a network in order to use this option?
Thanks for any info and help. . .. R. E. (Gene) Foltz

It sounds like you don't have admin rights to do it. You need to login as
admin.

First off, the folder must be on a drive that is formatted
NTFS. Second, the folder must be in your profile.
Go to Start -> Run and enter %userprofile% in the Open box.
Click OK.
You can make the contents of this folder private.

You Cannot Select the "Make This Folder Private" Option

If you're looking to restrict access to other folder's on your
system you will need to set the appropriate NTFS permissions.
If you're running XP Professional or Media Center, take a look
at these articles.

How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a
shared folder in Windows XP

How to set, view, change, or remove file and folder permissions

While it is possible to restrict access to folders, beyond the
ones you can make private, in Windows XP Home Edition, it's not
something I recommend.

Good luck
