Folder Permissions

Mike

Good morning,
I have an access 2000 database shared over my network.
I have a folder that contains the database shared out to
certain users. They have read only access in that
folder. If one of the people that have read only access
to the folder opens up the database, no one else that has
read only access can. It gives the error, cannot lock
file. Is this something that I can change in the
permissions of the folder? Most of the people I work with
know jack about computers and I don't want them to delete
anything. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank
you for your time.

Respectfully,
Mike

There may be an Access NG better suited to answer this, but it sounds like a
record-locking problem. You may want to search MS's knowledge base for
"opportunistic locking" or record locking. The locking feature will work
differently depending on where the database resides. Is it on a server or
desktop? It's better to have it on a server share, although you need to be
aware of performance issues.
