Folder option control panel

Guest

Am I in the right forum for this question? Hope so!
I have received an e-mail attachment that has name:diff1.pps, but I can't
open it even though I have downloaded Microsoft Powerpoint slide show. I
just keep getting the following message - 'This file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
folder option control panel'.
I figured out that I go to 'control panel' 'appearance and themes' 'folder
options' and I found 'PPS Microsoft Powerpoint slideshow' under 'view'. Am
I on the right track and what do I do next?
Can someone please help.

Right click a .ppt file, point to Open With and then click Choose Program.

Look in the Programs list for Power Point.

Programs:
Lists the programs that Windows has registered. Click the program you want
to use to open the selected file. If Power Point is not on this list, click
Browse.

Make sure that you select the Always use this program to open these files
check box.

Always use this program to open these files check box:
Specifies that the next time you open this file, or any other file having
the same file name extension, you want Windows to use the program that you
specify here.

Browse button:
Click to choose another program. You'll be able to browse through the
folders on your computer.

If the above doesn't work, open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
Type the following line in the command prompt:

assoc.ppt=

Hit your ENTER key and close the command prompt.

Hi Ramesh,

I think that it may be time for me to make another scouting expedition to
your site again. ;-)

You're most welcome to do so, Wes :)

BTW, I assumed that the poster's system is running XP SP2 with PPT Viewer 2003 installed.
