Folder Icon

Installed a desktop theme, it changed the folder icons to a picture related
to the desktop theme. The desktop theme has been removed, set the desktop
theme to default and it still shows a picture as the icon for the file
folders. Is there a way to reset or change the file folder icons back to the
standard one?

Hi Valfadhir,

1. Start Registry Editor and navigate to:

[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]

2. Export the key to a REG file

3. Open the REG file with Notepad, and post the contents here.

Went to the registry location mentioned and there was nothing there to export
to a file.

There is nothing to export to a file, just puts
"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell
Icons]", and in the regedit is just "(Default) (value not set)"

I have put an image of what Im talking about on this page, so you can see
what Im talking about, some of the icons have been changed manually, the icon
is the picture of the face. The link is

Have a look under this key.

If you open the original theme file in notepad it will show you what it does.

Under (default), is there any other value? And, have you tried David's
advice.

There was nothing else there, and didnt find the key listed by David.

Apparently after some searching, poking around, ran Ad-aware and Xoft
spyware, and after they were done the file folders returned to the standard
icon. Appreiciate the time and help

ran Ad-aware and Xoft spyware.

That might be a coincidence. Repairing the icons (and deleting the
iconcache.db) should have helped. Anyway, glad the problem is sorted and
thanks for the feedback.

angels, I had the similar problem with a star wars theme. Now all folder
icons are death stars! Did you ever figure out how to set them back to the
default?
