Folder got converted to Control Panel, please HELP!!!

I've been looking for a solution for my problem for some time now.

I uninstalled a program called lockfolder which functions to lock out
folders using a password. I used it to lock the My Pictures folder
from the prying eyes of my classmates. However, when I decided to
uninstall the program, it left the folder as a system folder/file,
opening Control panel everytime I click on the My Pictures Icon (which
was converted into a file icon). The name of the folder now has a CLSID
attached to it, which appears as

My pictures.{21ec2020-3aea-1069-a2dd-08002b30309d}¦

I want to restore the folder since all my vacation pictures are in
there. Please help me! THANKS!

You could use system Restore Wizard.

System Restore is a component of Windows XP Professional that you can
use to restore your computer to a previous state, if a problem occurs,
without losing your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word
documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e-mail). System
Restore monitors changes to the system and some application files, and
it automatically creates easily identified restore points. These restore
points allow you to revert the system to a previous time. They are
created daily and at the time of significant system events (such as when
an application or driver is installed). You can also create and name
your own restore points at any time.

Hope this helps

Rename the folder, eliminating the CLSID.

Thanks for the reply. I tried renaming the file by removing the CLSID,
however, it cant be done. The CLSID returns even after renaming the
file. I think it might be a problem with the registry.

I also tried using system restore to undo the changes made by the
program. However, the changes are quite persistent even with a system
restore.

Anyone with idea how to change back the file into a folder?

Thank you very much!

Have you tried renaming from a command prompt window and/or safe mode? Both would be worth a try.
If that doesn't help, try the following:

Open a command prompt window, navigate to the 'My Documents' folder, then verify 'My Pictures' is
still a folder using 'dir /ad' in a command prompt window. If it is, you should be able to navigate
into it & use xcopy to move all your pictures to safety.

If explorer still thinks this folder is your 'My Pictures' directory (i.e. does the file open dialog
in Paint open to this folder?), then use tweakui or edit the registry directly to temporarily point
to another folder (c:\dummy). You'll want to edit the path for 'My Pictures' under:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
and
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

Now, with your pictures safe & explorer no longer thinking it's a system folder, see if you can
rename or delete it. If you have trouble, it's most likely remnants of your locking software. If
that's the case...I'm not sure what will fix it. You can search the registry for the long folder
name, search for software remnants, try 'Filemon' from www.sysinternals.com to see what process is
interfering with the rename, or try the various 'undeletable folder' tricks that are out there.
