Folder does not respond

Folder on my C: drive (in My Documents) does not respond when I try to open
anything inside of it. (just hangs and I have to kill Windows Explorer). My
PC is free of viruses and spyware.
 
What format are the files within that folder? Many types of files DO NOT
open, it all depends on the format. EXE and COM files are self executing,
JPG files are graphics, and TXT files are Text files, etc.
