Program not responding

F

Fran

Using IE6, XP home. When surfing the internet my system is hanging more &
more and getting "Program not responding, must close" error messages. This
causes all of my open windows to close. Is there a fix for this?

My spyware is updated often and I clear my cashe regularly. Thanks in
advance, Fran

Your spyware is updated and your "cache" is cleared? How about deleting
your cookies, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files including offline
content? Have you run disk cleanup under System Tools? When was the last
time you defragged/optimized? Have you set a manual restore point?

I delete my temp files and temp internet files regularly w/offline content.
Used "cashe" by mistake. I recently ran a disk cleanup. I have not
defragged. Don't know what "optimized" is.
Never deleted cookies...what is the purpose in doing so? I thought cookies
were important? Sorry for sounding so naive...Fran

Cookies are URLs or website addresses stored on your computer. One afternoon
session could run up hundreds of cookies. It is also where you are most
vulnerable for tracking your surfing interests and purchases, thus getting a lot of SPAM and email advertisements. Delete them each time you sign off. If you need fast access to a specific website put it in your "favorites". Check your cookies files,
if you never deleted them, by now they could be in the thousands.
