Folder Deletion

R

Richard Richter

I am trying to delete three empty folders from a hard drive on a workstation
running XP Pro SP2. I get an "Error Deleting File of Folder Window" with the
following message:

Cannot delete <folder name>: access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

I tried opening in Safe Mode both attached to the network and not attached
to the network. I checked the attributes. The Read-Only is checked but it is
grayed out so that if I clear it and apply it, it immediately returns.

I am the administrator for the network, so it's not a rights issue.

Can anybody give me any ideas on how to delete these folders?

Thanks,
Richard Richter

You may be an administrator but double check that administrators have full
control permissions to the folders and are the owners and if not take
ownership and grant administrators full control. You may also want to run
Check Disk on that computer choosing the option to automatically fix file
system errors in case there is corruption for security descriptors, etc for
those folders. If nothing seems to work try using the AT command on that
computer to open a command window and then try to delete the folders using
that window which will be running as system. Use the AT command as in AT
00:00 /interactive cmd.exe where the time used is a minute or two past the
current time and wait for the command window to open. The link below may
also be helpful if the folders have illegal names or other special cases.
