Folder appears on logon

Whenever I log on, the folder C:\Program Files\ATI keeps opening. It only
happens on my logon. I checked the Startup folder and even used Regseeker to
display start up items, but it wasn't in either.
How can I stop it opening every time I log on?

See MVP Ramesh's fix for "Dell folder opens on startup". The name of the
folder differs from yours but the concept is the same.

I went to the site, and navigated to the key
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run). There
were a few keys pointing to C:\Program Files\, then to various applications,
but none pointing to C:\Program Files\ATI or anything similar.

Information by Bruce Chambers:

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by an
incomplete program removal, in the:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

See if the above helps. The reference has to be coming from somewhere.
If it only happens in your account, then you might also look under the
HKCU Run keys.

That did it. In the HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key
was an entry pointing to C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\..., without
double quotations. Adding double quotations fixed the problem.

Thank you.

Glad to hear that sorted it. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

Adding to Malke's spot-on suggestion:

In future, you may use Doug Knox's Startup Tracker to generate a startup programs report. Here is my usual response for this problem:

<Q>

This is caused if one of the startup entries are not formatted correctly in the registry.

Download Startup Tracker application from this page:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_starttrack.htm

Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of the log file here.

Note: No need to post the following sections:

-- Running Processes --
-- Running Services --

Backup your registry first.
