Folder re-appears on desktop each startup/logon

The subject pretty much explains it - a folder opens on the desktop (Admin
account) on every logon. Tried ticking and unticking "Restore previous
folder windows at logon" (Folder Option)in various combinations with closing
the folder and
logging out and in again. No success - it still appears.

I installed a new firewall (Comodo) and had gone into the Progam Files
folder of the firewall to make a shortcut. The computer restarted (whether
through the install program or myself I can't recall) after installation
with that folder still open on the desktop. Since then (a few days back) it
has been a regular fixture!

What "folder" does it open to? What shows in the address bar? There are a
number of different causes for events like this, and knowing where it opens
to if half the battle towards resolving it. Just knowing that it (explorer)
opens is insufficient information to resolve the issue.

As I'd said, Explorer opens to the Program Files folder of the Comodo
Firewall -
E:\Program Files\Comodo (I have double-boot)

There appears to be nothing in the firewall which has triggered this.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. On the startup tab there is
likely an entry for this program. Uncheck it, then click apply/ok and
reboot. If the folder does not open, then that means the registry entry in
the HKLM run key is damaged. The solution would be to reinstall the software
or leave it disabled.

Thanks, Rick. I used StartupCPL to disable the firewall, which has two
entries in the Registry. No folder opening!

However, uninstalling and then reinstalling the firewall returned the
problem. Hunting in the registry for keys relating to E:\Program
Files\Comodo turned up two. Cautiously deleting those (after exporting them)
only disabled the Firewall startup, and another firewall un-reinstall
brought me back to square one.

So I think this software (which was quite promising) will have to stay
uninstalled. It looks like I'm going back to my old Sygate firewall -
further development was shelved after Norton purchased it ;-( - to avoid the
"folder" problem.

Anyway, thanks again for the guidance.
