fluctuating TV sound on the 9800se AIW

Hi,

I'm hoping that someone here can help me. I've just put togther a new
pc (my first time) and had a host of problems getting ATI's bundled TV
tuner to show any pictures. I sorted that by downloading the latest
catalyst and mmc and installing the hotfix for directx 9.0b.

However now I get TV the sound fluctuates. Its fine for about 2
minutes or so and then begins to scatter, fading to white noise. Its
incredibly annoying since you need to restart the tuner, or switch the
input to something else and back to the TV tuner to get the sound
back. I figure this'll make the tv tuner and tv capture unusable.

I'm using the NVidia sound facilities that are onboard my motherboard
and wonder if this could be the main problem. (I have the video out
from the graphics card connected to the line in on the motherboard)

Any fix/solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Anoop

Odd... I am running MMC 8.9 and have just found the same problem with
FM.

Read this
"Running XP Pro SP1a.
Everything was upgraded - Catalyst at 4.10 (latest).

Anyways, when I am listening to the FM tuner it plays for a while
(minute - several minutes tops) - then it basically dies - you hear
garbage as if the signal is lost. I then shut it down and restart and
it is fine - again for a minute - several minutes. Repeat Repeat
Repeat.

It tells me - nothing wrong with the signal since each restart the
sound is fine.

It tells me either a hardware problem or software problem. Hopefully
software. Part of me wants to uninstall and put back 8.8 and see if
it causes problems....
teddy"

(shut it = turn off radio turn on radio)

I also posted another one (look for my name) about problems with
upgrading "specific" and not "all" items.

I have to admit that the whole uninstalling/reinstalling routine is
getting tiresome.

I finally decided to opt for another software app (WinDVR3) to see
whether it was a software problem. Downloaded the trial version, and
it all seems to work fine, at least for the 5 or so minutes the
programme allows me to keep it on.

I don't know if you've already tried getting different software; might
be worth a shot.

Thanks I will look at it. And yes the "whole" uninstall/install is
definitely a bit of work (sure on paper it looks quick but about
45-90m later... ... and you are crossing your figures the whole time).

I tried PowerVCRII Trial - crashed. (officially the second program
under XP Pro I have that crashes "GPF" style -- ATI itself is the
first).

Will try again perhaps.. one day..
