tv-tuner in AIW cards

Does the tv-tuner card in AIW cards fail because of hardware failure?
With catalyst 4.1 drivers, I find everything works except the tv-tuner.
Is there any way to get the card checked in a hardware workshop and
repair it, if defective?

Try another driver set first before you throw it out (I have no idea whether
it can be fixed if it is actually broken but I would be very surprised if
anyone would even try; far simpler just to replace it). Also, make sure the
drivers have installed properly; I had a problem a while ago where my tuner
did not have the proper drivers installed until I did it manually rather
than using the standard install routine and so did not work. I haven't had a
problem for the last couple of months so try the latest drivers from
www.ati.com.

Thanks for you information. Mine too worked fine until ATI started
rapid change of Catalyst drivers - without providing exact information
on who should change, how and when. In India, it is impossible to
update the video-card as fast as ATI puts them on the market. So I have
to manage with the Hercules AIW Radeon 8500 DV card, The Catalyst
upgrade process does not permit me to upgrade beyond Catalyst 4.1 and
the associated MMC 8.8 wih DVD.
When the installation process for a later version of Catalyst asks for
the installation disk number and then to put it in the drive, the
process comes
to an end saying to the effect "this version cannot be installed with
this installation disk".

So I am living without the TV Tuner even though I can get the TV
programs on the Video-in screen since I have an audio-video-in
connector between my VCR and the Radeon Card. So the video-in is a
short-time, periodic slave of the VCR.

About trying just a different TV-video capture driver, I have no idea
how to select one from the large number of options available there.
Besides, at the time of installation, Windows XP often rejects drivers
which are not in a single set.

ATI and others have said it is not a good practice to update a driver
unless you are having troubles and goes on to explain the changes. I have
not updated many times because not of the improvements effected my system or
my requirements. Advice well taken.
