Floppy ok in XP Pro, not in XP Home - Why?

I recently switched from ME to XP-Home and had saved many files on floppies.
I can read them on a friend's computer with XP-Pro but cannot read them on my
XP-Home computer. The floppies are not bad so what is the difference? Both
computers are Dell. I have not been able to format new floppies on my
XP-Home computer either, but I have no trouble formatting them on the
computer with XP-Pro. What is the difference, and how can I make the XP-Home
computer work with the floppies?

G'Day C,

It's fairly certain that there is a problem with the floppy drive on
the Xp-Home machine .....
...you cannot format
...you cannot read good floppies.

Have you tried writing (saving) to a floppy?

Yes, I did try, but I had no luck. Then although my diskettes were formatted
when I purchased them, I tried to reformat the diskette in the floppy drive
thinking that perhaps the formatting would be different for XP. However, the
computer would not format the diskette. Perhaps you are right; maybe the
drive itself is faulty. It does blink when I put a diskette in, and the
computer recognizes that the A drive exists. The computer was shipped quite
a distance. Maybe there is a loose connection. Thanks for your reply.
