Floppy light stays on

My FDD has packed up - the light stays on. Does this mean it's a MB fault or
the FDD itself?
TIA

Far more likely the hard-drive.
You *might* try whacking the drive on the side or try taking the drive
out of the bay, *laying* it on one side or even upside down. Sometimes
you can get a failing drive to respond long enough that way to recover
data and get it backed up to a new drive. Sometimes.

FIRST though, I'd try putting a new set of drive-cables on.
Bad connections cause more troubles ....

What has the hard drive got to do with the FDD light permanently on ?

This is probably a faulty FDD unless you have had the ribbon cable off and
refitted it the wrong way round, you will be very un-lucky if it is a
motherboard failure.

Oops.
Read "HDD" instead of "FDD".
Sorry.

Same thing as with the hard-drive; only cheaper to fix.
First thing to check is the cable.

Happened to me a couple weeks ago while installing a new HDD. Turns out the
ribbon was reversed on the FDD. Had the red wire of the ribbon closest to
the power connector as you would think it should be. Turned it around and
works perfectly.

Hope it works for you,
Dennis

Thanks for all your help. Checked the cable, replaced with another. Now it
does not read any pre-recorded floppy's. Each one has to be SLOW formatted
and then there is only 1.38mb!!! What is going on????
TIA

PLEASE ignore my last stupid post! What a plonker - all is well. Such a long
time ago we all thought FDD were the cats whiskers. Seems centuries ago. How
long 10 years?
Thank again
