You can download one from
www.bootdisk.com
You could also use System Restore and pick a date before
the floppy stopped working to troubleshoot.

Hi Bert,
I just noticed the problem a few days ago. The floppy
drive did work before, and my PC is less than a year
old. I don't think I have a Windows 98 Startup disk.

Hi,
When did this floppy problem start? Did it ever work or
did it just stop working, and were there any changes to
the system leading up to this?
The final test it to set the floppy to seek at boot in
the BIOS. Insert a Win98 boot disk and restart the
system. If the system does not boot to the command
prompt then we know it is a hardware problem.
We will address the CMOS setting after this test.

In Tweakui, the floppy drive is checked.
No viruses or spyware (I ran software).
In Safe Mode, the computer could not access the A:
drive, but the A: drive is detectable under MY
COMPUTER, in regular mode.
I ran devmgmt.msc and deleted the floppy drive and
floppy controllers, rebooted. They were added back,
but XP still does not recognize that a floppy disk is
in drive A.
I am not sure which CMOS settings I am supposed to
re-set or how to do this.
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
Here are some steps to take for troubleshooting
floppy drive problems in WinXP.
1. Check to see if the drive is unchecked in Tweakui.
2. Check the system to make sure it is free of a
Virus or Spyware.
3. Restart the computer and tap the F8 Key while the
BIOS information is going by. At the Windows Advanced
Options menu select Safe Mode Command prompt. Put a
Floppy disk in the A:\ drive and type DIR and press
enter. You should see the directory tree of the
floppy disk.
4. Restart your computer in Safe Mode using the
instruction in step 3. Go to Start - Run and type
devmgmt.msc to enter Device Manager. Locate and
delete floppy drives *and* the floppy disk
controllers. Restart to see if Windows re-detects
properly.
5. Set the BIOS to detect the Floppy Drive a startup.
Insert an old Win98 Boot Disk and restart the system.
If the known good disk is not detected this would
indicate some type of hardware problem, weather it be
the Drive it self, cables or Disk Drive Controller.
A Win98 Boot Disk can be downloaded at
www.bootdisk.com
6. CMOS settings are incorrect: write down all
settings, then re-set to defaults, restart to CMOS,
re-enter the written down settings.
7. CMOS settings are incorrect: if "Swap Floppies" is
enabled, disable it.
8. Ribbon cables are 180 degrees out, or otherwise
mis-aligned/tilted: to correct, properly position
connectors and tracer color wire always to pin
number 1 at both ends.

The information at this link does not help very
much. Windows XP is not recognizing that I DO have
a floppy disk in my disk drive.
