Floppy Drive: Mine loads contents, but "freezes"

Perhaps someone can help me troubleshoot:

My Floppy Drive loads contents into a viewing folder just fine, but
"freezes"...And continues a cyclical "click-whirring" sound. The Task
Manager shows it "not responding". Of course, I have to end the program,
then. This has not happened EVERY time, but it's more common, now, than when
we first started using this computer. It's only about a month old & it's a
"rebuilt" computer with almost everything else (seemingly) working well.

I've begun some troubleshooting in my own "Help & Support Center/Hardware
Troubleshooter"...But I got lost when I used the link for "Windows Hardware
Compatibility List (HCL)" at the Microsoft Web Site. It appears that web
site has changed, and I don't know what to look for (specifically) in the
products lines (to either test my drive and/or see if I need an updated
driver).

rebuilders often leave the original floppy drive in the machine making the
assumption that it will
not be used.

since you need it...you might as well just get a new one...
they are about $15
