floppy drive and shutdown

Please can anyone tell me why it is that if I have used my 3.5 inch floppy
disk drive during a session, when I later shutdown, this drive starts
whirring? (No there's no disk in it at shutdown!)

Actually, I've now sussed it. It was a setting in Norton Antivirus! Thought
someone might like to know.

Hello Jess,

I have a similar problem. CLEAR does not eliminate the effect entirely. I
had Norton System Works installed to help a friend with a problem, and think
that may be when it started. I have since uninstalled NSW, but the floppy
gets repeatedly accessed, multiple times, for no apparent reason. If you
could elaboate on your solution I would appreciate it. Perhaps that might
help resolve my problem.

Thanks.
