Floppy drive ,cd-rom and cd-dvd inaccessible error msg

Alfred

On boot up in win2000 pro...
My 'a' drive ,'e'drive and 'f' drive ...floppy,cdrw,and cd-dvd
all stopped responding. The message is 'a:\ is not accessible'
the same message appears for 'e' and 'f'.

If you try and look at the contents of the drive thru explorer
you get 'incorrect function'

The machine can be booted up in safe mode and all drives
are recognized. They read fine.
I've checked setup, unseated the ribbon cables to no avail.
I'm sure it's something simple..but I don't know what.
I've certainly used norton to scan for virus..machines clean.
any help ,suggestions would be welcomed.

The norton anti-virus is interferring. Go to their website and search
for the "drive x:\ is not accessible" error message article.
