Flickering

Well I have posted several times and no one has answered my questions,
hopefully I can get some help here. It's been a nightmare with my computer
but now I think that I know the cause of the flickering and different lines
and colors that I have been getting. My question is I have pin pointed my
problem, I have a Dell 8300 xp out of warranty. OK I opened my computer and
followed the cable coming from my monitor, I guess thats the video card?
Anyway I played with it and moved it and my problem went away momentarily.
Everytime it happens it goes away if I open the computer and touch the Video
card? Can someone correct me and let me know if the part I'm talking about is
a video card. Please excuse me for my ignorance but this type of problem is
new to me. Thank you for your help in advance

Assuming you followed the monitor connection, then yes its the video card.
Disconnect pwr connector.
Remove the monitor/card connection, then pull the vid card, there will
probably be a screw securing its faceplate, check the connections where it
fits into the slot for signs of 'corrosion' firmly reseat the card and
reconnect all.
If still a problem try connecting your monitor to another pc to test the
monitor.
If still no go, and you dont have access to a spare vid card, take your PC
to a shop for them to replace vid card.
Unless your a heavy gamer you dont need an expensive card, and at least if a
new vid card doesnt work you should'nt be charged, and you'll know if its
more serious

DL thank you very much, I do know its not my monitor I already tried a
different monitor with the same reults.

Clean the contacts on the video card with a clean pencil eraser and reseat
the card. Intermittent contacts have driven many perfectly sane and
rational people to idiocy.

Thank you I will try that tomorrow, atleast now that I figured out the
problem its not constant like before. I think that you are probably right,
because it does not make sense that Everytime I open the computer and jiggle
the video card it gets better.

I appreciate your help it was my video card, I went to comp usa and they told
me that I could return it if it did not work.I was lucky and it did work for
me, thank you once again
