Flashing icon upper left hand corner

When I turn on my Dell laptop, all I get is a flashing icon in the upper left
hand corner of the screen. any solutions?

Do you mean a flashing cursor? If yes and this happens as soon as you
turn the laptop on, you have failing hardware. Call Dell tech support
for repair/replacement. If no, you'll need to describe the "icon"
although if the machine will not boot, it is still a hardware problem.
