These 2 problems have just begun occurring a few days ago.
Am running Win XP Home and IE6.0 SP2. Norton Internet Security 2008
is updated and reads everything is clean.

Prob 1: When accessing any page calling for Flash, I'm being prompted
to install Flash. I have since uninstalled and re-installed Flash 9
and Shockwave... If I go to macromedia's page, I'm told 9,0,47,0 is
installed. The java site reads me as having the recommended
installation V6 Update2.

Prob 2: When clicking on any link which opens a new page, nothing
happens... either from an email or a web page. Links to a page that
replace my current page in IE work fine.

I've de-activated Norton & problem seems not to be there.

HELP please? Am not savvy so the simpler the better..
but any & all help appreciated.

TIA

I'm not sure what the problem is with Flash, but if you want a clean
uninstall, try Adobe's Flash uninstaller:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157

As for the links not opening up, I had that problem after installing a
VERY old graphics app called MicroGrafx Picture Publisher. What
happens is that a registry entry gets messed up that allows links to
open in IE.

There is a tool they released, and I've kept it around because this
problem always seems to crop up from time to time. It's called
IERegFix, and you can download it here:
http://www.nebulus.org/download/IERegFix.zip

If you're insterested in seeing what entries it fixes, you can see the
log I captured from RegMon:
http://www.nebulus.org/download/IERegFix.txt

Hopefully that will solve the problem. Enjoy!

Many thanks!

Was able to repair both problems. The clean uninstall you recommended
did the trick on the flash.

Although IERegFix did not solve my new windows issue, I did find
success - oddly enough - on the following microsoft page:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

Your quick response much appreciated.

Best,
Commish
