Macromedia Flash not working

After installing SP2, Macromedia Flash no longer works in Internet Explorer.
No Flash Content at all will display. It displays a little page graphic
with a circle, triangle and square in side of it. I've tried it in another
browser and it works just fine there, but not in IE.

I've tried the following the resolve the issue, none of which worked:

* Uninstalling and re-installing Macromedia Flash Player
* Setting it to enabled in the Add-On Manager, but it isn't listed in either
list.
* The "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" in security is Enabled
* Enable third-party browser extensions in Advanced is Enabled
* Uninstalling and reinstalling IE
* The Content Advisor is Disabled

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Jesse

I've got another problem. If I do control-internet tools-empty the
browser cache, XPSP2 uninstalls flash player (including unregistering
it) and then it won't reinstall it because it isn't signed correctly
or something even after I insist I DO want to install it even though
it comes straight from a rogue web site put up co-operatively by
Satan, a 419 gang in Nigeria and a phishing gang in Romania and is
going to format my hard disk.

I've got an old Norton with GoBack so I got it back that way. I
suppose I can manually get rid of old cache files by going into

C:\Documents and Settings\my_user_name\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files\Content.IE5

and manually deleting the files in each directory.

Yes, I've sent messages up 3 different times, and several have made
suggestions, but none of their solutions worked.

Shockwave can be disabled in the Registry by altering it's Compatibility
flags key to Decimal 400, a value of Zero enables Shockwave.

Shockwave and Flash Player aren't the same thing, are they? At any rate,
when I look at HKLM\Software\Macromedia, all I have in there is FlashPlayer.
The only value it has in there is AutoUpdateTest, which is set to
AutoUpdate.

I had also at one point downloaded and installed Shockwave, which seemed to
run just fine, but it didn't help me with the problem I'm having playing
Flash content.

O.K, the way to run down the Shockwave ActiveX content is.
Explorer to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. Look at
the list and find Shockwave Flash Object. Double-Click it. It
will show it's ID string. It is this ID that you'll need to locate in
the Registry and verify it's Compatibility Flags. If it isn't found
at [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\
you can add the ID and make the appropriate flag sub-key
setting.

Alright, I did find a file called Shockwave ActiveX Control in that
location, but, I don't see an entry labeled "Shockwave Flash Object"?At any
rate, I grabbed the ID from the Shockwave ActiveX Control and did a search
for it in the registry. It found the ID SEVERAL times, but I didn't see a
"Compatibility Flags" setting that I could change anywhere. So, I did as
you suggested, and added the ID to the list at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\, and added
a Compatibility Flags value to the list and set it to 400, and I still have
the same problem. It almost appears that Flash won't install on my system.
Maybe that is the issue??
