flash drive

My flash drive which I know to be good as it works in my new vista computer
will not work in my old xp computer , when I plug it into any of the usb
ports on the front of the computer , it lights up but will not install , it
does not show up as a new drive in Explorer and does not show up as a drive
in Device Manager , it does create a new entry in the usb ports in Device
Manager called unknown device and under its properties says no drivers are
installed for this device. The flashdrive is a new Sandisk cruzer
micro 1 gig . I called Sandisk about the problem and their tech says
that the drivers for this device are installed natively by xp. All
the info I can find in Microsofts knowledge base say the same. If
anybody can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Chas

Try the USB ports on the back of your computer and/or unplug unused USB
devices and see if that works.

Thanks for your reply

I have tried the usb ports on the back as well and all the usb devices that
are plugged in such as the mouse , keyboard , etc are in use.

Thanks again

In XP there is a bug that it seems to use the last drive in use.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, click MANAGE then click on DISK MANAGEMENT

Is the flash drive listed in there? If so, right-click it & change the drive
letter to one unused then it will show up in My Computer along with the
other drives.

I hope this helps,
