Hi,

I want to remove the LILO bootloader (I already removed Linux) but for that
I need to run the recovery console from the boot disk. My BIOS does not
support bootable CD, so I ran I ran the bootable floppies for Windows XP -
but my keyboard would not work there!!! I have a cordless Microsoft
keyboard and mouse, it works in BIOS but when I boot something from a
floppy it just stops working - so I can't even install Linux again to
remove LILO from there; also the keyboard does not work in LILO itself so I
can't just skip it until it times itself out :(. I can't use any other
keyboard because my ps/2 keyboard slot is broken and I don't have any other
USB keyboards. I want to remove it because it increases my computer's boot
time by quite a lot (about 25 seconds).

This probably doesn't matter, but I'm using Windows XP home and I have the
fully licensed CD for it.

How can I remove this horrible nuisance?

Under Windows XP, you can restore the original MBR (thus uninstalling Lilo)
as follows:

Boot from the Windows XP CD , press the key "R" in the setup in order to
start the recovery console. Select your Windows XP installation from the
list, and enter the administrator password (just hit enter if one wasn't
created, or you are unsure). Enter the command "FIXMBR" at the input prompt
and confirm the next question with "y". Finally, use "exit" to restore the
computer.

That's my problem: I can't do anything in the recovery console because it
wont accept any commands from my keyboard!

Sorry, I meant to say: I can't even get to the recovery console because the
setup wont accept any commands from my keyboard!

Use a wired keyboard. Don't have one, borrow one.

See if you can get a Win98 start up floppy (if necessary download an
image from www.bootdisk.com ), boot that (if your keyboard works in BIOS
it should with that) and use its
FDISK /MBR
which will do the same as a FixMbr from the XP Recovery console -
rewrite the MBR code thus kicking out Lilo
