will fixmbr fix different OS'es from BartPE?

Hi All,

I just used fixmbr
http://www.ambience.sk/fdisk-master-boot-record-windows-linux-lilo-fixmbr.php
to remove a boot sector v1rus from an XP-Pro-SP3 machine with
BartPE (essentially XP-Pro-SP2). Joy was had.

Now it has occurred to me if I were to do the same thing on
a non-XP (w2k, vista, etc.) machine with Bart PE, would it
screw up the MBR as BartPE is XP and would differ from the
OS of the hard drive. Do I need to stick with XP machines
or can I do this with Bart to Non-XP machines? Does MbrFix
know the difference?

Many thanks,
-T

The Bart PE boot CD itself will not affect your installation in any way. It
is the fixmbr command that restores the MBR. You can use it on all Win9x,
Win2000 and WinXP machines but you should ask a Vista newsroup whether it
will work for a Vista installation.
