Whenever I try to run Device Manager I get the error:-

"Snap in failed to initialize"
Name: Device Manager
CLSID:{74246BFC-4C86-11D0-ABEF-0020AF6B0B7A}"

I tried to "Add" the snap-in by running MMC but when I click "ADD" the same
message appears.

Can anyone please help? Has anybody encountered a similar problem? I do not
remember recently installing new software, except recent MS Security
Updates, which may have 'walked all over' a *.dll or the registry!

Will this open Device Manager for you?

Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK

Wes,

I am very grateful for the suggestions but I am afraid none of them
worked. Since I have a very fast system (with SCSI 320 disks)which takes
only 11 minutes to rebuild (from a clean image that I always keep) then
there is little point in spending too much time trying to fix a
malfunctioning system. I have now rebuilt the system and evrything is
fine once more.

Many thanks for trying to help me.

Kind regards,

Stan Kay

Hi Ramesh,

An old cliché. But certainly appropriate with Windows. ;-)
