Device Manager Problem - Help

Guest

I just developed an error when trying to start device manager.
No matter how I try to access it I get the error:

"Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name:Device Manager
CLSID:{74246BFC-4C96-11D0-ABEF-0020AF6B0B7A}."

What's up? Any help appreciated.

Thanks - JC

Hi, JC.

That's a new one on me! A first step might be to run the System File
Checker. At the Run prompt, enter: sfc /scannow

SFC will compare each WinXP operating system file with the "known good" copy
held in your on-disk cache and replace any missing or damaged ones. Have
your WinXP CD-ROM handy; SFC probably will need to see it.

If that doesn't work, post back with more details. Such as, what happened
just before this error started appearing? When did you most-recently access
Device Manager successfully?

Thanks for responding RC. Bad news its a new one for you.

I ran SFC as you suggested, but no change to my problem.

I last used Device Manger within the last week. Nothing has changed in my
system other than the last batch of Microsft Windows Security Updates. They
seemed to install normally.

hi JC
I remember once I was so hungry and ordered myself fettuccini at a quite
expensive place.. as I had the first fork of dish I begun to laugh without
controlling myself.. the food was so good

clicking on kellys-corner and getting rid of the problem was a similar
experience
thanx i mean bonne apetite
