First Vista Printer USB or Local?

I have a Canon i860 plugged into a usb port on my MOBO. Have also had it
plugged into a usb port on a PCI-e card. Works without installing drivers
or any program out of the box. Also works from a networked Vista computer
and XP86 computer. Will not work from an XP64 computer.

I installed Vista 32 bit about 7 months ago - a clean install, not an
upgrade. I have been using it with my HP printer without incident.

Because of the fuss here, I borrowed my neighbors Canon i860. I turned off
the computer and disconnected the HP. I then connected the Canon. Upon
booting the computer the printer was identified and resident drivers were
installed. A test page was successfully printed.

I #####DON"T##### have 20 years experience in IT.

I forgot to mention that I also installed the Vista add on module for this
printer from Canon. It did not improve performance. Just gave a bit more
functionality.
