Firewire & USB

I got Maxtor One Touch 250gb over 2 years back, one with two firewire
ports and one USB port.

I have computers with only USB ports.

Recently I connected the disk to USB port of a mchine which apparently
has USB1 facility and I got message that if I rather used 1349
connection speed will be better.

Machine does not have firewire port.

I believe if I want to use firewire connection I need to install a
firewire card like http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/47028 on the
machine.

Two ports on the external drive are perhaps to connect it to 2 seperate
machines.

Would appreciate comments from people who these things.

The two firewire ports can be used for connecting 2 PCs as a network
assuming both have firewire as well.

Only one PC can access a firewire connected hard drive by that connection.
Whichever PC "finds" it first, has access.

Have read many complaints, and non-response to these complaints at this
newsgroup regarding firewire. I have a strictly firewire connected hard
drive. Although I have no firewire problems here, be aware.
