Firewire not recognised

I can not get Windows Xp to recognise the 1394 interface on my Asus K8N4-E
motherboard, it does not show in device manager. It is enabled in the BIOS
(flashed to latest version).
I have tried XP SP1 & SP2.
Assuming it was a fault with the M/B I installed a PCI Firewire card it is
also not recognised, with or without the onboard being enabled or disabled.
I have tried with a more powerful power supply to ensure that the 12v line
is supplying enough wattage. Any advice or help would be most appreciated

And the bios assigns which hardware irq to the onboard firewire? If
assigned, is it shared with anything else?

There are no separate drivers for Firewire, they are part of XP

I meant for the chipset or motherboard, from the ASUS
utilities cdrom.

IRQ's set to auto in the BIOS. Does not make any difference if set to
manual, still no 1394 connection
