FIREWIRE not detecting......

Hi, my tower has a slot for FIREWIRE on the top, and it was apparently
connected to the motherboard. It never worked when I would plug in the
firewire from the top, so I got a port which i installed in the back of my
tower and connected to the mother board. When I use a FIREWIRE cable, it
still doesn't detect anything in Windows. My brother's computer detected the
firewire cable (attached at the other end to a Digital Camcorder), so I know
that something is supposed to be detected in the control panel (bottom right
of screen) as soon as I connect the wire to the computer FIREWIRE slot or the
camera. Nothing is happening.

There is a 4 pin slot and 6 pin slot. I have a firewire cable that connects
from 4 pin to 6 pin. I know the cable itself works because i've used it on
another computer.

Is there some way I can check to make sure the FIREWIRE is hooked up and
connected properly through BIOS or Device Manager? Is there some sort of
setting anywhere that I have to adjust or update? Do I need to download
anything?

Anyone's help is greatly appreciated in this manner!

Happy Holidays,
Mike

If you want more detail you will have to tell me the make and model number
of your motherboard.

P.S. Motherboard manuals are on the manufacturers website.
