Firewire/eATA Server?

Hello, I have two graphics workstations. A setup i'm looking to create would
be to have both these computers connected to a single external storage
hardware through Firewire or eATA.

The storage chassis would be able to manage proper read/write access. Both
computers would be able to read all files on the storage hard drive, and be
able to write files to it. No/minimal software overhead would be involved. No
dedicated 'server computer' would be required. Does such a thing exist?

As an example, my inspiration would be Xserve, and EditShare. However
they're extremely expensive, and they use fibre channel / ethernet.
Firewire/eATA only for me :)

Firewire and (I believe) eSATA support what you wish to do. Unfortunately
Windows XP doesn't. However, an ethernet network drive should provide the
functionality you require though you may need a gigabit ethernet to get any
decent speed..
