Firewire Card not showing

I installed a firewire card and understood that XP should
automatically sense it and find appropriate drivers. When
I look under devices, I see USB, but I don't seen
anything about firewire. When I hook up my DVCamcorder,
the program tells me there is no device connected.

Do I need another adapter? Should I download some drivers
I don't know about? What would you do next?

Any and all ideas welcomed!

Hi,
In XP Pro SP2 my firewire card shows up as 1394 Net Adapter under Network
Adapters in the device manager.
