Reigstry Settings for Firewire Card

My firewire card stopped working sometime ago. Since then I've tried
replacing the card with a new one, changing the cable, and trying several
different devices, all of which work on other computers. I've also reloaded
the driver multiple times. I can not find any hardware or driver issue.
Device Manager shows the card as being there, but it never works and doesn't
show in MY COMPUTER.
A friend who knows more about this than I do said it had to be a registry
setting, but we've been unable to find anything on the internet about it.
Does anyone know where in the registry this might be? Or what I should
change it to?

The firewire card does not show in My Computer, but it should show up in
Device Manager. What does Device Manager say about the card?

Device manager sasys the card is working correctly. But I can't get anything
to work on it. When I attach external hard drives to it I never see them in
my computer and they never show connecting. These same drives work when I
connect via usb.
I should also mention, the pc and card manufacturer say to re-load the
operating system. I can't do that because my wife's business is on it.
I've basically ruled out everything except the registry, which I don't know
much about. I was hoping someone could tell me what registry changes I can
try.
