Firewire/camcorder issue

Hi there,
Just got a new system, Asus A8N with onboard firewire (Texas Instruments
OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller) yet when I hook up my camcorder to
it, connect the cable (I've tried 4 cables now!) and power up, the PC doesn't
detect the camcorder at all.

that looks related there maybe?

Has anyone experienced this and know of any fix?

This is one of the most frequent questions asked in the newsgroup
microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker. There is no single answer, but
the people there seem to be able to come up with the necessary
questions and steps to correct the problem.

The same thing happened to me, but it turned out to be a faulty
Firewire adapter card. Device Manager said the card was working
correctly, but Device Manager will not detect that the ports are
connected properly. Exchanging my card corrected the problem.

There are several other reasons. The newsgroup cited deals with the
Microsoft Moviemaker program, but it also deals with the capturing
function of camera-to-PC.

Another source of information is the discussion groups at
camcorderinfo.com. There are discussion areas for every brand of
video camera, and you might find there is a particular situation with
your camera. The boards there are fairly low-volume and responses may
come slowly, but they are often very helpful.
