=== True, but only within limits. There are other possible
and likely entry points that firewalls, no matter how many
ways they protect, will NOT protect one from. Other than
that possibility, the statement is factual.

Most people do not know safe=== Uhh, "safe PC operations" is the ONLY reason these
groups exist? Now it's Tom who needs to go do some reading,
methinks. Troll hungry again.

Some people go to websites and inadvertently get popups thatuse them.
=== No, they are caused by mainstream sleeze and
bottom-feeding bass turds that searched out the most
successfully installed and the largest installation base,
and then decided to spew into them. You'll notice (well,
Tom probably wouldn't) that other os's are getting this
privilege now that things are tightening up a little.
Fortunately, there was a MS there to lead the way and open
the field w/r to how to handle these sleeze-balls.

me at all.

tripe hanging out. It's clear, concise and to the point. A

Well, you should have asked about firewalls. When you say you didn't feel
having the need for a another type of firewall, other than the firewall that
XP provided, was indicative of some experience, rather than just hearing the
term and saying it is OK. Also, you have the MVP initials after your name,
so maybe I assume too much from that. Just ask what it is, but I am sure you
have the wherewithal to find the info on the WWW.
=== Well, no, you should have just kept your mouth shut or
taken it to, say, one of the warez groups where attitudes
such as yours are wanted. Don't worry, Mommy will hold your
hand if someone yells at you.

PS: What does 'worded' mean? I thought I knew English
fairly well.

word·ed [wúrd?d]
adj

- expressed specifically: expressed in words, especially in a particular way
a carefully worded reply

Be resourceful, look words up, if you say you know English "fairly" well!
Yeah, like after all the tripe you've spewed, that anyone
would care what you think should be done, let alone follow a
command such as that.

=== Full inline posted for my pure entertainment and to
irritate someone who decided to troll. If you disagree with
a person's comments, simply say so, keep your liver out of
its quiver state, and wait to see if you're in the majority
or the minority. Oh, sorry; your opinion's the only one
that matters, right?

Oh well; wonder if that grill's hot yet. Steaks were thawed
& ready last I checked.

True, in theory. But monitoring out-bound traffic does help catch
any nasties that do slip through; particularly those that are
recognized by last weeks virus definitions.

Plus from that "old" floppy, the freind's CD, special cons,
etc. etc.. Unfortunately there are quite a few
possibilities but newbies don't usually run into them too
often. But, IMO, it IS worth mentioning about 3rd party
firewalls giving the extra protection, but you still need
anti-spy and the like, but it needs to be stated sensibly
and with credit.
