Never tried the ScrapBook extension? It allows you to save pages for offline
reading (with the source Url), add your notes to them, cut off the pieces
you don't want, edit and organize them,...

http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/index.php?lang=en

IMO it's among the best extensions ever seen.

These seems quite promising but can you tell me where the source URL
ends up? I've looked at the options for this extension by clicking on
TOOLS > EXTENSIONS and double-clicking the extension where it is
listed but nothing I've tried works. I am not fond at all of tabs so
I have Tabkiller. Hopefully that isn't stopping this from working
somehow?

Thanks.

I can't say about Tabkiller because I don't know it.
Anyway, after having captured a page with ScrapBook, when you open that
saved page you find a blue Edit button in the status bar. Click it, the
source Url is on the top of the page.

For more info read these pages:

Thanks much for the info. No, I don't have that. Must be the skin
I'm using. At any rate, Scrapbook doesn't work for me. I save pages
in IE and get the source URL right at the top of the page when opened
in notepad (which is actually my Metapad). Anyway, I have an Autoti
script and I copy that URL, invoke the script and it types away at the
top so that I have the link on the saved page. I also do a quick
search/replace for all images on the page so that all external files
are access through one folder called images and then dump all images
from all saved pages for offline viewing into that folder. So if I
have 50 saved pages in that folder, I only have one with all images in
one place. Sounds like a lot of work to some, probably, but I can
then open these files on any computer and using any browser and can
travel to the page with a mouse click.

Well, it was too good to be true. I'll keep looking. I have the
"Open this page in IE" extension so that will still have to do for
now. Eventually I'll find what I'm looking for I'm sure. I already
do what Scrapbook does without the restrictions it imposes, so it's a
fabulous program but not necessary for me.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the info and time.

Cheers. :oD

Excellent! This worked like an absolute charm. Now FF is
practically perfect! <g> I also have my bookmarks backed up to
my partition, too! <g> Too kewl. I only put custom icons on my
IE "Links"-style toolbar, the Personal Toolbar. And the price was
not bad at all. The bookmarks file went from 117kb to 171kb so
not too bad a price to pay.

I do the same thing with the toolbar bookmarks; I clear the text so
all I see are the icons. Unfortunately, my bookmarks.html is now half
a meg, which is making it annoying to keep it synced with a copy I keep
in an ftp space.[1] When I get a chance, I am gonna clear out the
icons for everything not on the toolbar and see what I can do to keep
it that way.

[1] I use Bookmarks Synchronizer for that. It's at the same website
as Favicon Picker.

I use Bookmark Backup as my needs are small. It's on this page:
http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/?extension=bb

And when I want to actually keep a particular instance of a bookmark,
what I do is go to the bookmark folder on my partition where this
extension backs up the html file and then make a copy of the file and
add a date to it.

i.e., yesterday's backup is this:

bookmarks.html.thu

I made a copy last night and called the copy this:

bookmarks.html - 2005.05.05.Th (with custom favicons).html

The files keep getting overwritten so that's why I do that whenever
I've made a significant change. And yesterday's editing was to add
specific icons using faviconpicker! <g>

Sboulema has repackaged it for 1.0.x. I haven't used this one, but
other extensions he has repackaged have worked fine for me.

AWESOME!! Thanks so much. I have combed through the FF extensions
site 3 times looking at all the extensions individually and never
found the upgrade <g>. It's so kewl to have all my old favourites
back including this elusive statusbar clock one! Tx. :oD

Just when I really have FF perfect (except for icons not showing
up properly in Personal Toolbar), I see that there's a new update
and that I even missed one <g>.
[snip]

If you mean the Bookmarks Toolbar, I doubt you will see an
improvement; I don't think the handling of bookmarks and their
favicons has changed since 1.0. You might try the Favicon Picker
extension, which lets you attach any image to a bookmark. If you do,
be careful to use only small images, else the bookmarks file can get
pretty bloated, since the images are stored within bookmarks.html
itself.

Actually, I forgot one thing when saying FF was nearly perfect <g>,
whenever I save a webpage for offline archiving, I open IE because it
automatically saves the source URL. I hope that Firefox adds this
functionality at some point.

If someone would also like to vote for this feature, pls do so here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125729

I just voted this morning so the count is up to 19! <g>

<fingers crossed>

There is the problem that the bookmark file starts getting populated
with icons that increase the size of the bookmark files. I have a ton
of bookmarks but actually use them rarely so it's not that much of an
issue yet, and I gladly pay that price for having icons on my personal
toolbar folder, but it could be a problem for people who can't. I
deleted icons in the one folder entry in my bookmarks that I do go to
frequently and even after deleting, the instant I used that bookmark,
it put the icon back in. So when I saw this msg for removing
favicons, thought I'd add it here:

I've just found a *really* easy answer! The freeware program AM-Deadlink
has an option to remove selected or all favicons from your Firefox
bookmarks file.

Works exactly as it says!

'course, a far easier solution may be to just turn the icons feature
off and so I'll go and post that in the thread. :oD

All I do , go to where I have Mozilla Firefox installed in Windows
Explorer & rename the folder to Mozilla Firefoxold ( ignore the
warning )
Now install the new version , no settings are lost .

Well, that seemed to work <g>. I did the same thing and other
than
having to change the default icon, so far things seem to have
"transferred" over. Thanks for the tip!

Deer Park Alpha 1 ( new version FireFox )

Installed about 30mins ago from the nightly downloads .

All Extensions are OK , including Scrapbook .
