Finished print jobs stay in queue

I have a laptop running Windows XP. It has recently started retaining print
jobs after they are printed. Every time I shut down and restart, it reprints
all print jobs, unless they are manually deleted. Each print job is marked
"Sent to Printer." The same behavior exists if I stop and restart the print
spooler. Here are some other things I noted:

1) It happens even if I print directly to the printer without spooling
2) It happens printing to all printers defined on the machine
3) Print jobs delete fine manually after they have been printed - they just
don't do it automatically like they should

Of course I couldn't find anything helpful on the MS Knowledgebase or even
Google Groups.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Bill,
I have this same problem and seems like it does not have
anything to do with the printer driver because i tried to
use different printers and got the same result. I also
have a machine with the exact same setup and it does not
have this problem.

We may have found the problem - we turned off Bi-directional printing on all
of the printers and it seems to have cured the problem. Go figure!

Thank you so much for your help on this. I was going crazy trying to figure this one out. You've saved some trees here. Kristen
