Fingerprint reader stops responding

I am using the fingerprint reader as follows:

o Vista 32-bit Enterprise
o Dell D820, 2GB RAM, 1.83GHz CPU
o Fingerprint driver 3.0.0.187

The problem I have been having for some time now is that after a while
(sometimes minutes but certainly hours) the fingerprint reader stops
responding. I still get the icon on dialogue boxes and the reader is still
illuminated, it just doesn't respond. If I unplug the reader from the laptop
and plug it in again it comes back to life, but will go unresponsive again
after a period of time.

It's not the end of the world but is frustrating so any hints, tips or
solutions would be much appreciated.

David,

It's not a dirty reader (I cleaned it again to be sure). The symptoms are
very predictable and repeatable and are 100% cured by unplugging and
re-plugging the reader. This would not be explained by a dirty lense.
Something is causing the reader to stop reading but it is corrected upon
resetting. The driver itself appears to still be good because it recognises
websites I have registered with the reader and places the icon on the
dialogue box.

Thanks,
Andy

Mine has also stopped working. I've been googling and it seems that there
are lots of people suddenly having problems, which would suggest that it is
something to do with a recent Vista upgrade.
