Finding delivered messages

I often get an indication that a message is being delivered to me but when I
look in the inbox it's not there. I see the system "bring in" the message,
and it's not put into the junk email folder but it simply disappears! I've
had people ask me if I received their message and have even had it resent to
me so tt they can prove they did send it, but it's nowhere on my system (at
least nowhere I can find it). It's not on the ISP's server either, having
been deleted from there when it's been sent to me. What happens to the
message and where can I likely find it, assuming I can find it!!!

Version? First place to check is your View settings. Make sure 'Arrange By'
is set to show all messages. Second place to check is your Rules and Junk
Mail settings. Don't ever opt to delete junk mail immediately. Meantime
change your settings to Leave mail on server until you fix this.

In addition to Mary's suggestions, make sure you're not scanning your
incoming mail with an antivirus or antispam tool or that your firewall isn't
scanning incoming messages.
