Generally, the answer is no, but if they are really important, you should
search the Internet for a data recovery specialist. Some folks recommend
either Drive Savers or Seagate Recovery Services. Expect bills well over
$1,500. Even after formatting and before you re-installed the programs, most
data could have been recovered with any of a number of reasonably priced
utilities.
A lesson; always make back up of all data (documents, images, etc.) before
beginning any action such as that.

Here are some links to various data recovery programs. People whom I respect
have recommended R-Studio and Restoration.

Google for "key logger" - it will echo everything she types to a secret file
that you can inspect (and retain as evidence) at leisure. Some of the more
exotic ones capture web pages, copy files, and retain documents.

You could also ask your wife - perhaps she's already bought one.

You may want to try Sherlock Data Recovery
Services(www.SherlockDataRecovery.com) They not only recover your
data but they also give you a USB drive as well and their rates are
much more reasonable
than what you mentioned ($1,500 plus).
I hope this helps!
