Find out the model name of existing and not any more existing physical DVD drives?

On a computer there were previously physically two DVD drives mounted.

One of them was physically removed later.
However they appear still BOTH (!) in Windows Explorer and in many other so-called
diagnostics tools.

When I go e.g. in Windows Explorer on the properties dialog of the (one existing) DVD drive,
then on "Hardware" tab, then click "Properties" for both DVD devices
then BOTH DVD devices show "enabled".

How do I find out otherwise which of the two DVD drives is still built-in and which one is removed
WITHOUT opening the computer physically and look on the paper sticker on the physical device?

On the front side there is no brand label. Seems to be no-name product.

You could try the following suggestion - at your own risk:

a. Back up the Registry - and/or set a Restore Point
b. Open the Device Manager / Hardware window
c. Right click on one of the DVD drives, and select the
uninstall option. Repeat this step for the other drive.
d. Re-boot your computer. Windows XP should detect any new
plug and play devices - and re-install the one DVD drive that is
present.

If that doesn't work, restore the registry back-up - or go back
to the previous restore point.

Disable one, and check whether the device still is accessible.

Did you look in device manager?
control panel > system properties > Hardware > Device manager

Hi Timo, why not put in a CD and check what device shows the contents?

Timo:

Here's the first thing I'd try. Go to My Computer. Right click on one of
the DVD drives and select eject. If the DVD tray on your computer opens,
that's the one that's still installed.

It would help if you explained what you're looking to accomplish as the
final objective of all this.

If you're looking to remove the duplicate entry, it's easier to just
delete both drives from Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows re-detect
the one which is physically present.

Hi Timo
go into the device manager (hardware) and deinstall both devices.
Then let the current installed one be detected again by P&P options.

This new Plug and Play cycle should only detect the installed one.

You may want to clean up the "hidden" devices in Device Manager.

Save the following into a "batch" file and the click on it:
