If I give you guys spec, let me know how much you would spend on it then
I'll tell you how much I spent, I hope its worth more than I spent
othwerwise I'll be proper pissed.

spec:

Xenon series modded case 350W psu (the one with the 2 blue strip lights on
the front)
Abit IS7-E motherboard (dual channel RAM with massive expansion incl SATA,
best m/b for the money IMO)
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with 800Mhz FSB
DVD ROM Drive
latest MSI DVD Burner (top quality burner)
latest graphics card ATI Sapphire 9800 XT 256Mb (I am most proud of this,
plus I get Half Life 2 free when its released)
1GB Ram PC3200 400Mhz (2 x 512Mb)
floppy drive
Creative labs I-Trigue 2.1 3300 (wicked speakers, quality's top notch)
Phillips 19" tft (this monitor is ****ing marvelous, great for 3d max
animations, and playing Far Cry :)
logitech wireless keyboard & mouse
Western digital 200GB Hard disk (I already had this, it was in my windows 98
pc and was very unstable, its the reason I decided to build a new pc)

Well I came up with $1480 off the top of my head. Then I went to a couple
of my favorite vendors and spec'd out a similar system at $1960 and $1950,
both without the hard drive. Some of your components were more expensive
than I thought they'd be. Anyway, I hope you didn't spend more than two
grand on this rig. Looks pretty nice, though. -Dave

well I've just worked it out and the pc cost was £1403.06 and the total of
delivery for all these components was £45.06 both prices include VAT. I have
been on loads of websites and customised many pcs and all are around this
price with similar components but none come with the ATI graphics card which
really makes a difference when gaming and animating in 3d max even though it
doesn't support open GL an equivalent geforce would not handle games
anywhere near as good. I think I could have got away with paying a bit less
but hey, what's done is done, I don't think I did too badly, and I enjoyed
building it, like a big 3d puzzle (sad hey?).

I enjoy building PCs too. IMHO it's more economical that buying a
ready-built. That at least has been my experience.

Since you own it, it is worth about half of what you paid for it.
Ever try to sell a used computer and you will find out. Well maybe
two thirds for a computer less than 6 months old.

I'd pay a grand for such a setup, but I've have to hold on the speakers and
wireless keyboard and mouse.

Don't be offended, I'm a tightwad.
