film loses color and definition when put to file

MM. 2.1 When I transfer movies to file and then go to play they come out in
funny lurid colours and lacking definition, though they were perfect when
they went into file?

You have probably downloaded a codec or a codec pack that has replaced the
codec used to render the files. Re-installing SP2 may help.
