Odd coloring in playback

I'm using Windows MM to compress a large .avi file (~350MB) down to a smaller
..wmv file. I imported the .avi file into Windows MM and it looks good on the
screen. However, when I save the final movie to my computer and play the
compressed .wmv file back in Windows Media Player, the coloring is all wrong.
Any ideas?

A 350mb dv.avi file is quite small, about 1 1/2 mins.
If you have used a compressed avi file such as divx/xvid/mpeg then these
don't work properly with MM and this can be one of the problems you
encounter.

Try using Windows media encoder or one of the other conversion apps listed
here instead.

If it is a dv.avi file, then it could be graphics card needs drivers
updating, direct X needs updating

The .avi file I'm trying to compress comes from using FRAPS software for
video capture. I looked on their website and it sounds like FRAPS does a
little bit of compression on the file, so maybe I'm giving MM a compressed
..avi file.

Thanks for the website link; I tried using VirtualDub and that gave decent
results for compressing my file.
