Files with Attribute Encrypted

Ramon Galang

Hello,

My problem started last monday Sept 22 when a RPC fix was
applied to my PC running Windows 2000. I have data folder
with attribute Encrypted that I can not accessed any more.
I am getting access denied when reading files in this
folder. I can create new files with attribute Normal but I
can not change attribute to Encrypted, it is giving error
invalid function. All other folder in my C drive have
attribute normal. Our PC support gave up on me but I have
8 months of data on this folder that I will lose. They
don't want to ask Microsoft because they have to pay for
it. I hope somebody there can lead me to the solution.

Regards,
Ramon

Did you reinstall or create a new user account?? Try logging on as local
administrator which should be the default recovery agent for a non domain computer to
see if that helps. I would also suggest running checkdisk on your computer. Another
thing to try is to use the cipher command to try to decrypt the folder. using the
efsinfo command may help by showing who should have the ability to decrypt those
files and who the recovery agent is. --- Steve
