Files Unreadable (.doc, .url, .mht)

Hello,

I would be grateful if anyone knows about the problem I am facing.
There are a set of files that are not readable. The .doc although could be
opened with word, their text is unreadable. The .mht is the same. The .url
has no url address when I click with the mouse on file properties.

Somtime ago I have encrypted the files with XPs encryption and i exported
the certificate and key for future decryption. I may have backed up the files
with XP backup and then restored them again I can not remember. Maybe I have
messed a little with encryption eg maybe I have encrypted them twice. Again I
am not sure what mistake has happened. But usually when a file is encrypted
and I try to open with no certificate I get error access denied, which I do
not get here.

Anyone has any ideas of what could be the reason?

If you encryted them and lost the key they are lost. What ever you try make
sure you back up the files before hand or you could create more problems.
You need to reverse the steps you took when encrypting the files. There is
no other way. No back door into encrypted files.

Thanks. The files are shown as not been encrypted ie not green color.
I have actually decrypted them with the mentioned certificate that I have
kept.

Maybe the OS (maybe with my help) has done something and messed things up?
ie the files are still encrypted but are shown as decrypted?
