Hi,

Can someone please tell me why, after writing files to a CDRW using XPs
CDFS drag-and-drop method, the files are being marked as permanently Read-
Only. I am unable to remove the attribute from the files?

Is there a way to make them writeable?

The only other work-around is to copy the files to the destination PC and
work on them there.

Thanks.

Neil

Files are converted to "read only" when copied to a CD because files on CD's
can't be opened for editing, but can only be replaced. Hence, all files on a CD are
"read only" by the nature of the media, in this case the CD.
CD-ROM = Compact Disk-Read Only Memory

"The only other work-around is to copy the files to the destination PC and
work on them there." [That is correct].

The fastest workaround I have found is to open file, make your changes, save
file on deaktop, then write to your cd. A few extra steps but it works.

Does this mean that I cannot edit changes to a file on CDRW? From what I'm
reading it sounds like I can't operate the CDRW like a disc, where I open the
file make changes are resave it. I have to resave my changes on the desktop
and then reburn a the new file with changes to the CD. Is this correct? If
it is what is the point of using the CDRW?

Many thanks.

You need to format the CD as UDF but Roxio should do it for you
automatically. What particular program are you using to write to CDs?
Windows default is not particularly good or sophisticated for such
things!

NO! Roxio will not make a 'packet-writing' UDF CD automatically. You have
to access "DirectCD"/"Drag to CD" and format the CD-RW/DVD RWs.

It is the same for Ahead's (Nero) InCD.
